Minister’s Tudge’s decision to have the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) substantially rewrite its draft national curriculum is an essential step in ensuring education prevails over ideology in our kid’s classrooms.

Minister Tudge said in a letter that he would not endorse the proposed document amid concern that student’s outcomes would be harmed.

“Your draft, however, diminishes Australia’s western, liberal, and democratic values,” Mr Tudge said. “The overarching impression from the curriculum is that the main feature of western civilisation is slavery, imperialism and colonisation.”

Eric Abetz, Liberal Senator for Tasmania, said ACARA needs to go back to the drawing board to prioritise the fundamentals and cease the one-sided focus on Australia’s past faults rather than its many undisputed successes.   

“Such a curriculum that has been panned by many eminent academics, historians, mathematicians and reading specialists needs to be urgently rethought,”
