National Curriculum redraft necessary to ensure education over ideology
Minister’s Tudge’s decision to have the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) substantially rewrite its draft national curriculum is an essential step in ensuring education prevails over ideology in our kid’s classrooms.
Minister Tudge said in a letter that he would not endorse the proposed document amid concern that student’s outcomes would be harmed.
“Your draft, however, diminishes Australia’s western, liberal, and democratic values,” Mr Tudge said. “The overarching impression from the curriculum is that the main feature of western civilisation is slavery, imperialism and colonisation.”
Eric Abetz, Liberal Senator for Tasmania, said ACARA needs to go back to the drawing board to prioritise the fundamentals and cease the one-sided focus on Australia’s past faults rather than its many undisputed successes.
“Such a curriculum that has been panned by many eminent academics, historians, mathematicians and reading specialists needs to be urgently rethought,”
“The relentless Leftist denigration of Australia’s great history, one of the most successful, prosperous countries in the world, is typical of the rot besetting our education and university sector, which teaches our teachers.”
“Australia does not have a perfect past – no country does – but its Western, Judeo-Christian heritage and culture is what makes it one of freedom-loving, prosperous and stable democracies in the world.”
“Minister Tudge has shown good judgment to rein in the education bureaucrats who are far too focused on ideology over education.”
“I look forward to seeing a curriculum that is far more balanced in examining Australia’s history and culture, one that doesn’t shy away from the ills of the past but also examines how and why Australia became one of the most successful countries in the world.”
