The Whitsundays has been named the most tourism reliant region in Queensland, with 20.7% of The Whitsundays gross regional product coming from the tourism industry in 2019-20. The WSY 2019/20 Regional Tourism Satellite Accounts has found that 1 in 3 jobs in The Whitsundays is in the tourism industry, and majority of the tourism consumption in The Whitsundays has come from domestic travel across Australia in 2019/2020.
