Getting to Fraser Island, Australia

  • Written by NewsServices.com

K’gari or Fraser Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia and for a good reason. Fraser Island is visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists each year for its iconic landscapes and beautiful, clear waters. It is one of the largest sand islands in the world and a unique location to see thriving rainforests at nearly a height of seven hundred feet. It is also one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in Australia, located off Queensland.

As popular as Fraser Island is, tourists are often confused as to how to get to it. The island is located near Queensland, separated from its east coast by water. Since there are no roads or bridges that connect the island to Queensland, tourists often take other popular forms of transport by sea or air. Read on as we take a closer look at how you can get to Fraser Island to spend a memorable vacation with your loved ones.

Driving

Although we just mentioned that there is no way to drive to the island owing to a complete lack of roads, you still have to arrive at Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay somehow, and for most travelers, it is by a three-hour-long drive from Brisbane, the capital of Queensland.

You can either rent a car, camper van, or a 4-wheel drive. It is important to know that only the latter are allowed on the island, and in case you take a regular car or a van, you will have to submit it for parking.

Boating

Boating is one of the most popular options for tourists who want to visit Fraser Island. Once you get to Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay, you can rent a boat and set sail for the island. Hiring a boat has many advantages, including an opportunity for fun activities like fishing or exploring nearby waters for aquatic life. Boating also makes for an excellent sightseeing opportunity and provides a relatively private way of reaching the island.

Ferry

If you would like to take a ferry to the island, you can choose from one of the two popular ferry services available. Manta Ray Barges and Fraser Island Barges offer tourists a chance to travel to Fraser Island with or without their vehicles, and depart multiple times a day, meaning that you can catch a popular ferry any time you visit the beach.

Departure points for different ferries vary according to companies. Similarly, the arrival times also vary between ten to fifty minutes. For an optimal experience, it is advisable to purchase a return ticket that costs less than a one-way ticket.

Conclusion

Fraser Island is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in Australia and should be on your itinerary if your time and budget allow for it. You can drive to the nearby departure points and then take a boat, ferry, or even fly to the Island, all depending on your preferences and budget options. When in Australia, you can also partake in excellent online casino games for a fun time.
